After a short gap the ever excellent Radical Independent Bookfair (RIB) is back. Amongst the excellent materials on offer are plenty of free advice and material from the IWW.

The RIB is at the CCA, 350 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, G2 3JD

THE RIB is supporting the Document film festival on its 10 year anniversary! Yup that means a 10 day festival – so a 10 day book stall to coincide… new titles and a new set up.

Updates: Industrial Action, Ian Tomlinson, Palestine and More

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , on August 3, 2010 by iwwdumfries

First, as the post below indicates there is ever greater industrial unrest building. Even the Bummarees, the licensed porters at Billingsgate Fish Market, and one of the most reactionary of unions (the last time they protested was in support of the racist bigot Enoch Powell in 1968), are organising industrial action to protect the workers livelihoods. The Autumn of Discontent is building and Wobs will be taking part….

Second, Great news concerning the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign (PSC) meeting on Saturday 1st August. Over 30 attended, raising £50 for the Scottish PSC and £70 for the Palestinian Crafts (Hadeel) stall. Such was the enthusiasm that a Dumfries branch of the PSC is being set up – first meeting Thursday 5th August at the Multicultural Centre, Irish Street.

Third, whilst the police, other state authorities and mainstream media are carefully avoidung mentioning the subject again – the campaign for justice for Ian Tomlinson continues to gain support. A demonstration called at just a few days ntice, and taking palce at 12 Noon on a work day still attracted 150 people protestors ouside the offices of the Director of Public Prosecutions. With another demonstration planned for Saturday 9th August in Carshalton, PC Harwood’s home town, this is one camapaign that won’t just disappear. If the police can kill protestors at will, with no come-back, all citizens at risk.

Finally also on saturday, but this time a little closer to home (well 70 miles away in Glasgow), Dumfries Wob Ben Franks will be speaking about self-organisation alongside Maud Bracke at the Centre of Contemporary Arts, Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow 2pm, 7th August. More details here.
